Why Own an Electric Vehicle?

Efficiency and Cost:
Per mile, electricity costs 80% less than gas.
  • Electricity: $0.02 per mile ($0.1143 per Kwh) (4.75Kwh/23mi.)
  • Gas: $0.12 per mile ($3 per gal) / (25mi per gal)
  • Electric motors are 89% efficient (2-4 times the efficiency of gas engines).
  • Electricity is distributed to the cars via wires at 95% efficiency.
  • Lower insurance and registration costs.
  • If you do most of your charging at night, you will be using excess electricity normally wasted on the grid.
National Security:
Electricity is abundantly available in the United States from a multitude of clean sources. Huge amounts of our tax dollars are spent in defense of foreign oil fields. The number one cause of our trade deficit is imported oil.

Cleaner Air and Water:
According to the California Air Resources Board, electric vehicles (EV’s) reduce pollutants by more than 90% when compared to the cleanest gasoline-powered vehicles (even when factoring in the emissions from power plants generating the electricity to charge the vehicle).
  • Less CO 2. Less carbon monoxide. Less nitrogen oxide. Less hydrocarbons.
  • Driving a gas car 10mi./day creates 3,200 pounds of carbon dioxide per year (10mi./day)(365days/year)(22lbsCO 2/gal)/(25mi./gal). Gas cars are the largest source of CO 2 entering the atmosphere from the United States.
  • The PG&E electrical power content for California comes from clean air sources: (40% natural gas, 34% biomass/geothermal/hydroelectric/ solar/wind, 24% nuclear, 1% other, and 1% coal).
  • The biggest unregulated polluter of water is gas powered cars. Grease, gas, and oil on our streets pose water threats equal to industrial discharges.
  • Cancer and other diseases are directly linked to petrochemicals, their fumes, and the exhaust resulting from the burning of fossil fuels.
Less Maintenance:
Electric cars have fewer than 10% of the moving parts when compared to a gasoline-powered car. EVs don’t have pistons, transmissions, engine oil, spark plugs, valves, grinding starters, clutches, rotors, distributors, oil filters, fuel pumps, fuel filters, air filters, radiators, anti-freeze, water pumps, timing belts, fan belts, catalytic converters, or mufflers. No fumes, no exhaust, no smog tests, no oil changes, no radiator flushes, no loud engine, no warm-ups, and no gas lines.

Infrastructure:
The delivery system is already in place (they charge off of regular electrical outlets which are everywhere).

The Option Is Here:
Ninety percent of American households own a car operating less than 21 miles a day (well within the range of our vehicles). This is an opportunity for you, and our community, to make a difference by leading our nation in transportation alternatives. Relax, have fun, and make a statement!
